Its often during the late hours
and early dawn
that I lie awake
blanketed in quilts
waiting for motivation to land
on my heart deserted by will
when cold envelopes the city
It’s a challenge everyday
to fetch motivation
centered around faith
to stand up and face
the warm water
spreading as cold icicles
on my bare skin
ablution is the first step
before the key milestone – prayers
self discipline comes easy
when I qayam longer through the cold
and bow myself to the Lord
the warmth of my faith
and the chill of the weather
complement each other well
I rise with the energy it creates;
stronger forces that have me
submit to Him regardless.
