Stress I Rent By Huda Azam

There isn’t really much to narrate
other than the usual greys
when anxiety’s best friend
visits the town of colours
and build its forts
under its name: stress

I’ve witnessed many of its tenants
headaches
palpation
numbness
exhaustion
back pains
visit and leave
reside and bargain
for permanent residence
in the canopies of the heart
that pace around like free liquid
in a human body
they call home

I call them the building blocks
for procrastination
that follows
stress;
that has set more fires
within the shelter
than releasing humans on pathways
they search for
when they let it be the visitor
while trying to complete the task undone.

I’ve never understood
the policies of buyers deals
but the human body rented
for this heated emotion
explains the unexplainable.
