Towards the light by Siddiqua Bano

Towards the light

(It depicts the journey of realizing the truth, holding myself accountable and then approaching the reality through the concept of self-improvement)

That endless hunger

Hiding inside

Those needless needs

Growing wide

Helpless heart drowning deep

As darkness evading all the light

All wounded voices fading in the bleak

And sins closing breaths so tight

Still portraying innocence with ease

From truths flying away that kite

True feelings all burnt, but words still to speak

Now evilness is being normalized

Even in joys, fears are left to perceive

Even now wrong is all right

For becoming strong from weak

For turning rich from deprived

All fake you are ready to believe

All realness you are ready to fight

What deeds do you want to leave?

For the Judgement Day after this life

In poisonous air, how can you breathe?

How can you sleep with calm at night?

Walk along the waves with peace?

Ignoring realities appearing clear in sight

With ears, like deaf paying no heed

With eyes portraying to be blind

All these efforts are for those dreams

Sparkling days, temporary delight

Come out of that narrow street

To pure realities, open your eyes

Out of the lies, the walls of concrete

Out of the barrenness into bright

For tasting this volatile sweet

Harshness of years, don’t invite

For fame to reach, for worldly peak

Phrases of falsehood, don’t write

Ignorance don’t learn, bad don’t teach

Only goodness has all the might

Just come out of that disastrous greed

Life is a blessing, don’t take pride

All the sorrows of past, just leave

Return to Allah Almighty, the Absolute Truth

All Perfection, the Owner of all the might

Your fitrah is calling again back to reality

Don’t ignore your intuitive voice

Return from the depths of sins to pure bright

With power of intellect, avoid this materialistic race

With wisdom, the best of the Akhirah try to chase

For the love of Allah Almighty, with power of faith

The endless desires of inside, try to fight

Don’t choose what is easy, but strive for what is right

In between the doubts of mind, don’t try to hide

Open this chained heart with the key of Salah

Proceed on this meaningful journey towards the light.

(This poem highlights the importance of focusing on the Akhirah because in the end this blind run in the race of instant gratifications of this world will not help). Allah swt says: But you prefer the worldly life. While the Hereafter is better and more enduring (Al A’laa: 16-17)
